What is a Guarantee Rate?
The rate quoted as well as the lead in pricing that most lines provide on their website is called a “Guarantee Rate.” What does that mean? This is the lowest rate for the given category, I.E., Balcony, Oceanview, Inside, etc. A few weeks before the sailing the cruise line will pick a stateroom for you, guaranteeing that it will be in at least the category that you selected.
For instance, if you book an Oceanview Guarantee, the line will choose a room for you in the Oceanview category, it might be an upgraded Oceanview, or it might be an obstructed view, it can also be on any accommodating deck number.

How do I pick the best stateroom?
There are many factors that go into picking the best stateroom for your next cruise. Here are a few of the items that I do for you to find the best place on the ship for your vacation.
First I consider placement from the front to the back of the ship. I will always try to place the Mid-Ship to minimize any motion from sailing at sea. Some people are sensitive to the propulsion noise at the aft of the ship. Also depending on the size of the ship more “rocking” can be felt forward and aft.
Next, I look at what is happening above and below your room. Can use tools that “stack” the decks so that I can get an overall view and avoid such things as kitchens/galleys above you, kids clubs, and night-clubs and other heavily trafficked, noisy areas of the ship. I also always try to take elevator noise into consideration when selecting your room.
I will also ask for your preference when it comes to being close to certain things like restaurants, the theater, pools, etc.
As you can see, there is a lot of things to consider when picking the perfect stateroom for your next cruise! Some like the cost savings of a Guarantee rate, and other like the added value of having me select a great location on the ship.
